Friday Finishes

Luke Marcum, you have a physical at 9:30. Interesting article.

Awesome Students, I am sick (really). I will not be in on Friday.

Bell Work: What does it mean to reconcile your checkbook? (hint: it was in Thursday's video, and it's probably in your book).

Today, handouts 29.1 and 29.2 are on the teachers' desk. Please work on these from the book. I'm not sure who the sub is, but maybe you can help him by passing out copies, saying nice things, being your normal, well-behaved selves. Thank you.

Place finished work in box. Have a great week-end.

There is, yet again, another hand-out. 15.2. This is a bit more involved than the 15.1, and is worth 100 points.

I Quiz

Wednesday, 13 April 2011
Awesome students, the idea on Tuesday was that, while I was busy getting my head together, you would be busy getting your work done. Many of you did get your work done. Many of you did not. Hand-Out 13.2 was due on Tuesday. We had two days to do it. Usually we only take one day.

Work First, Then Play.

Thank you,

Bell Work: Sometimes businesses sell things for less than the business paid for them. Why would they do that?

Today, we start Chapter 14.1 There will be hand outs and la slide show. Enjoy.

Does it Really Matter?

"No matter how close to yours and another's steps have grown,
In the end there is one dance you'll do alone." (Jackson Browne)
It's Sunday afternoon. About an hour ago, we got a phone call from our son. A friend of mine died. Richard was 62 years old. He lived hard. He died hard. He made so many mistakes in his life, and, in his last six months, had so many regrets.

But Richard did some really good things, too. You see, he was the father to my step-children, Karen and Richie. Karen is the mother of my very best friend in the whole world: Daniel, my 8-year-old grandson. Karen's also the mother of the most incredible person I've ever known: Anna, my 6-year-old granddaughter.

There's sadness everywhere right now. I cry as I write this. The tears aren't so much for me, but for the ones I love--my step-children and my grandchildren. I hurt because they hurt.

On days like this, it makes me wonder: What does matter?

Wednesday Work

Greetings, awesome students.

Bell Work: Are marketing a product and selling a product the same thing? What's the difference?

How well would this store do in Phoenix?
I will assume that the class did not get that far on Monday, am I right? Well, today we start a new unit: Marketing. This is probably my favorite subject in the textbook because I spent real close to 30 years in the field, and I loved the business world. That world was fast-paced, exciting, interesting and highly profitable.

If you can master the art of marketing, there is probably no occupation that you cannot successfully use that art in.
How well would Asimo sell in Haiti?

We will be doing some handouts, and watching a PowerPoint today. Later in this two-week section we will have a marketing project that I think you will enjoy. Bon Voyage.

Monday 4 April

Good Day, awesome students.

I won't be able to come in today.  You might need to create your own bell work sheets for the week, or write down your answers and transfer them later.
Bell Work·         How do businesses attract customers? Think about the last item you bought. What were the influencing factors in your decision to buy that particular brand?
Today, We are starting a new Unit. Chapters 13 and 14 in our textbook.
Objectives:

  • ·         define marketing
  • ·         identify the functions of marketing
  • ·         list the elements of the marketing mix

  1. Read chapter 13.1, pages 218-221. As you read, create a two-column table that lists the seven functions of marketing on one side, and an explanation of that function on the other.
  2. Read the BusinessWeek Reader on page 220. When finished, go to glencoe.com, and fill in the answers in Word for the case study.
  3. Also, when you are finished reading Chapter 13.1, do the self-check on glencoe.com, and e-mail the results to me.

Friday Finishes

Bell Work·
When was the last time someone made a positive suggestion to you that you used? What made you change? Logic or Emotions?
Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Success begins with a decision. Choose to do the right thing. So many people are more concerned with finding the right person rather than being the right person.
Friday, ·       SStudents will write a personal business letter to the Mars company--based upon their surveys and data collection. Save the document as Mars Letter, and e-mail it to me.
Also,  Students will work in pairs to create a five-slide presentation to Mars, using various design templates, animation and transitions. This pOwerpOint will include the graphs, charts, polls, etcetera, and be used along with the business letter to persuade Mars to accept your suggestions to improve their product.

Close:
·        Students will complete these statements:
o       The best thing about this project was…
o       This project would have been better if…
When finished, e-mail all documents to me (click below.)
